Summary
* The Call Handler is a crucial role within a local authority, providing frontline information, advice, and assistance to the public, families, and professionals seeking support from adult social care and community health services. This position ensures individuals are directed to the appropriate services promptly, with accurate information recording and proper escalation of urgent situations. The Call Handler supports safe and effective service delivery by gathering essential information, offering guidance, and maintaining clear communication with internal teams and partner agencies.
Responsibilities
* Serve as the first point of contact for enquiries about adult social care services, including occupational therapy, carer support, assistive technologies, and assessment services.
* Receive, record, and prioritise enquiries and referrals made by phone, in person, or in writing.
* Gather information, ask relevant questions, and determine the level of need at the first point of contact.
* Provide advice, guidance, and information to help individuals address or resolve issues wherever possible.
* Contribute to or complete initial contact assessments to support decision-making.
Requirements
* Experience:
o Experience working with vulnerable people and an understanding of the range of services offered by health and social care agencies.
o Experience in a customer-facing environment requiring clear communication and sensitivity.
o Experience recording information accurately and managing confidential data.
* Qualifications:
o Good standard of general education.
o Literacy skills and typing/word-processing ability.
o NVQ Level 3 in Customer Care or equivalent, or willingness to work towards this.
