Senior Cancer Project Manager

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic project manager to join the Urology Department at UCLH and the Royal Free London for a fixed term funded post up to 31st March 2026. It is expected that the postholder will be based 2 days a week at UCLH, 2 days a week at Royal Free with the remaining day flexible at either site or WFH.You will be joining two of the largest urology departments in the UK providing a range of highly complex urology service across multiple sub-specialities. You will be responsible for delivering on a range of complex projects focussed on improving efficiency in urological cancer patient pathways, including renal, prostrate, bladder, penile and testicular cancer.This post is funded by the North Central London Cancer Alliance (NCLCA) and is hosted by University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NCLCA work to promote early diagnosis, optimise pathways, reduce variation, provide personalised support for patients and build service resilience. As part of its programme of support for and transformation in cancer services, NCLCA supports embedded posts in each multi-specialty trust in NCL.


Main duties of the job

The Urology Senior Project Manager role is an exciting position for an individual who brings excellent stakeholder engagement skills and service improvement skills as well as a sound understanding of the NHS and cancer, and of the issues affecting patients with cancer.

We are seeking someone with enthusiasm and skills in developing and supporting others which make you a compassionate and empowering team member. You will bring dynamism, positivity, and a collaborative attitude to UCLH and RFL.

The post holders will work closely with the General Managers and senior leadership team across UCLH and RFL to deliver a programme of change across Urology at both sites.

The main duties of the Senior Project Manager are:o Clinical engagement - To establish effective working relationships with, among others, consultants and clinical nurse specialists, and to promote collaboration across professional and departmental boundaries,o Change management - To facilitate the development of improved patient pathways, through the application of best practice and service improvement methods,o Project management and delivery - To develop and implement projects with clinical and operational teams,o Communications - To actively engage, inform and influence key stakeholders.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Qualifications

* Educated to a higher degree or significant equivalent experience
* Knowledge and understanding of a range of issues in cancer care / services
* Knowledge and understanding of cancer pathways, and/or primary care


Experience

* Extensive experience of running large scale projects/ programmes in a large, complex organisation or network/system
* Successful record of managing and implementing substantial service transformation and organisational change projects
* Significant experience of working with partners and stakeholders in delivering sensitive changes to services.
* Experience of working closely with stakeholders to inform and implement initiatives.
* Experience of management within the NHS
* Experience of strategic planning and leading decision making in prioritisation of complex workflows
* Experience of effective financial management


Skills & Abilities

* Demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary issues and commitment to multidisciplinary working
* Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, with the proven ability to liaise effectively within a multidisciplinary team based environment
* Ability to meet deadlines and complete tasks within agreed time scales.
* Evidence of ability to identify and achieve goals, with a focus on a sector wide impact


Other Requirements

* Demonstrate a commitment to self-development with ability to demonstrate knowledge of current thinking and policy affecting health and public sector.
* Demonstratable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and/or Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties
* Being familiar with and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
* Completing all required training and education (both via e-learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
* Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal
* Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
