Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system in Flint, Michigan, has a proud tradition of community education. We offer a range of academic, extended services, and extracurricular activities at elementary and secondary levels to meet our students' and families' needs.
Essential Functions:
* Provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students in grades 7-12.
* Collaborate with teachers, staff, and parents to support students and enhance educational effectiveness.
* Use student achievement data to guide course selection and advocate for student needs.
* Work with students and staff to address academic and behavioral issues impacting learning.
* Identify resources to support students' academic and personal success.
* Monitor attendance daily for each student.
* Assist in developing the Master Schedule of classes.
* Implement intervention strategies for student absences.
* Maintain a student database with relevant data (attendance, grades, assessments).
* Counsel students on scheduling classes.
* Act as a liaison among teachers, parents, and students to resolve issues.
* Guide students through educational, career, and personal/social development.
* Support students in accessing post-secondary opportunities.
* Refer students to community resources in consultation with parents.
* Complete required statistical reports.
Qualifications:
Michigan Department of Education Secondary School Counselor endorsement or School Counselor Certificate required.
