Electrical Machines Engineer
Full Time
Locations: Derby, Solihull, or Bristol
We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Machines Engineer to join our team in the UK, with preferred locations in Derby or Solihull, and possible in Bristol.
Our Electrical and Electronics team is part of E24S (Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Software, and System Security) supporting Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems sectors. Our current focus is heavily on electrification of products, including electrical power generation, conversion, energy storage, and distribution solutions. Projects range from TRL1-6 technology development to full-scale product demonstrators and TRL6+ new product introductions, involving concept studies, modeling, prototyping, testing, and certification.

Role Responsibilities
* Develop electrical machines including requirements, trade studies, design, and analysis.
* Design electrical machines from prototypes to production, covering powers from a few kW to several MW.
* Contribute to high power density, high-speed electrical machine technology, including operation in harsh environments.
* Develop and validate power systems integrating electrical machines for generation and motoring applications.
* Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain on Design for X principles.
* Work with teams to develop power system requirements and solutions.
* Implement robust solutions with materials specialists, ensuring safety and reliability.
* Create specifications, performance requirements, and design documentation.
* Conduct rig and laboratory testing, including hardware-in-the-loop.
* Enhance electrical machine capabilities and testing facilities.
Candidate Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer preferred.
* Significant experience in designing electrical machines for aerospace or similar industries.
* Knowledge of interfacing electrical components like inverters, energy storage, drives, and powertrains.
* Experience with various electrical machine types and design tools (MotorCAD, COMSOL, ANSYS Maxwell, etc.).
* Understanding of electrical system analysis tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK, PSPICE.
* Ability to produce technical documents and specifications.
* Familiarity with aerospace certification standards (e.g., CS-25, CS-E, DO160) is beneficial.
* Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
