Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEND School (Autism Specialist)Location: Newton-Le-Willows (WA12) Start Date: Immediate Starts Available Contract Type: Full-Time Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm Are you passionate about supporting children with autism and making a genuine difference in their day-to-day school life? Do you thrive in a structured, nurturing environment where every child is supported as an individual? We are currently recruiting for a specialist SEND school in Newton-Le-Willows, supporting children aged 5 to 16 with a primary diagnosis of autism and a range of co-existing needs. This is a well-established, non-maintained special school that focuses on personalised learning, high levels of support, and helping pupils develop the key life skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond. About the School: The school provides a highly supportive environment for pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and additional needs such as communication difficulties, social and emotional challenges, and varying learning abilities. Each student follows an individualised learning pathway, built around their EHCP outcomes, with a strong emphasis on: Communication and interaction Emotional regulation and behaviour support Independence and life skills Social development Class sizes are small, with a high staff-to-student ratio, allowing for tailored support and meaningful progress. The curriculum is adapted from the National Curriculum and designed to support not just academic achievement, but also personal development, wellbeing, and preparation for adulthood. Key Responsibilities: • Support pupils aged 5–16 with autism in a classroom setting • Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learning and engagement • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs and EHCP targets • Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation • Assist with behaviour support using a calm and consistent approach • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff • Help create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment What We’re Looking For: • Experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs • A calm, patient, and resilient approach • Understanding of the challenges associated with autism (e.g. sensory needs, communication barriers, routine) • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils • Confidence supporting behaviours that may challenge • A genuine passion for SEND education What You’ll Get in Return: • Immediate start available • Full-time, consistent hours (Monday to Friday) • Supportive and experienced school team • Opportunities for ongoing training and development • Competitive hourly pay • A rewarding role where you can see real progress every day If you're looking for a meaningful role within a specialist school that truly understands autism and prioritises every child’s individual journey, we’d love to hear from you.
