The post-holder will be educated to a minimum of degree level in a science subject and have gained post graduate experience and /or qualifications in the specialism. They will have experience of research and an interest in research activity. Completion of STP, ASP or equivalent training and experience in GI Physiology is particularly desirable.

This role would be an ideal opportunity for a candidate who is due to complete the STP and who may benefit from an experienced and supportive team to help transition into a first newly qualified role.

Applications will also be considered from applicants with different healthcare experience and relevant qualifications wanting a patient facing role eg from AHP professions, clinical engineering or specialist nursing. As a development role, comprehensive training will be provided with the potential to complete the Accredited Scientific Practitioner (ASP) training programme in GI Physiology where appropriate.

The successful candidate will ideally have professional registration or will be working towards registration if newly qualified. They will ideally be an accredited independent practitioner with the Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP) or will be supported to achieve this once in post.

The post holder will undertake and report on a variety of gastrointestinal and other clinical measurement procedures to include: High resolution oesophageal and anorectal manometry, ambulatory intra-oesophageal pH and impedance monitoring, laryngo-pharyngeal reflux assessment, endoanal ultrasound, PTNS, hydrogen / methane breath testing, capsule endoscopy, and involvement in the sacral nerve neuromodulation service including temporary and permanent device management.

The post holder will possess excellent written communication skills, have the ability to train junior staff and be able to organise a busy workload whilst remaining calm under pressure.

They must be self-motivated and able to motivate other team members to meet service needs and demands, and be flexible to the needs of the service with a positive attitude. They must also be a strong team player with plenty of initiative, imagination and determination to make a difference.

Qualifications and experience

Essential criteria

1. Related science degree
2. Experience in related healthcare setting ideally >3yrs
3. Practical and theoretical knowledge of the specialist area plus working knowledge of associated physiological measurements disciplines.

Desirable criteria

4. Masters level / postgraduate study
5. Qualified clinical scientist in GI through equivalence, STP or ASP

Professional registration

Essential criteria

6. Registered with The Health and Care Professions council (HCPC) and / or AHCS
7. Member of the Association of Gastro-Intestinal Physiologists (AGIP)

Desirable criteria

8. Independent practitioner of AGIP

aptitude and skills

Essential criteria

9. Skilled in performing, analysing and reporting on a wide range of upper and lower GI physiology investigations.

11. High levels of competency in computing skills eg spreadsheets, databases,
