Morson are currently recruting for GKN who are looking for a Manufacturing engineer intially for 6 months on a 4.5 day flexi shfit paying up to £29.81. The role is fully on-site at their site in Filton.
Role Purpose
Provide Manufacturing Engineering capability to operational and development Programs to enable and deliver zero defect projects utilizing engineering and problem solving skills. Accountable for delivering robust, capable manufacturing process technology as it applies to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
Highly organised and technically proficient Cutter Lifecycle Manager to oversee the end-to-end management of cutter assemblies. This role is critical to ensuring optimal tool performance, cost efficiency, and quality standards across machining operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in tooling systems, CAD/CAM software, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Key accountabilties
Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring full compliance with GKN Aerospace Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Develop and implement technical solutions to complex manufacturing challenges, collaborating with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
Provide expert support for machining process development, integration, and troubleshooting across production environments.
Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions) to eliminate non-conformances.
Foster strong working relationships with cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure seamless tooling operations.
Lead and contribute to Lean initiatives aimed at improving process efficiency, tool life, and cost performance.
Key responsibilties
Cutter Assembly Lifecycle Management Define and validate cutting parameters for new and existing cutter assemblies.
Create and maintain tool drawings using Catia V5 and simulation models in Vericut.
Program and maintain Zoller tool pre-setting systems to ensure accurate tool setup.
Coordinate cutter procurement, assembly, and deployment to meet production schedules.
Monitor tool wear and performance, implementing adjustments to maximize tool life and reliability.
Continuous Improvement & Cost Optimization Analyse cutter usage data, tool life trends, and associated costs to identify improvement opportunities.
Introduce alternative tooling solutions to enhance machining quality and reduce operational costs.
Investigate and resolve tooling-related quality issues, including tool breakages and measurement discrepancies.
Drive corrective actions for on-machine tool measurement system faults and inefficiencies.
Zoller System Oversight Manage the creation, maintenance, and optimization of Zoller programs and tool databases.
Ensure system integrity through regular backups and recovery readiness protocols.
Tooling Inventory & Supplier Management Collaborate with suppliers (e.g., Seco) to maintain optimal cutter stock levels and availability.
Identify low-usage or obsolete tooling for phase-out and removal from vending systems.
Streamline tooling inventory to support lean manufacturing and reduce waste.
