The Environment Agency are recruiting a fixed-term role, up to 2 years, for somebody with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role involves regulating energy sectors to create a better place and supporting the UK strategy to deliver Net Zero by 2050 while decarbonising and expanding electricity production. Through effective regulation, we must ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, and mitigate and adapt to climate change impacts.
Responsibilities
* provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training
* develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* commission and manage external research projects where needed
* work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* respond to incidents as a central part of the role; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident
* the Energy & COMAH team lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction and tools in support of regulation
Experience and Skills (Qualifications)
* ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage diversity in the workplace
* relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, including understanding of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
