Job Summary

The Band 2 Clinical Support Worker plays a vital role within the Stroke Unit, providing high‑quality, compassionate care to patients recovering from stroke and related neurological conditions. Working under the supervision of registered nursing staff, the post holder supports patients with their physical, emotional and personal care needs while contributing to a safe, clean and supportive ward environment.


Key Responsibilities

Assist patients with personal care needs including washing, dressing, toileting, continence care and oral hygiene while maintaining dignity and respect.

Support patients with mobility, transfers and repositioning, and the use of mobility aids in accordance with moving and handling policies.

Assist patients with eating and drinking, including those with swallowing difficulties, following guidance from nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team.

Carry out delegated clinical tasks such as recording vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, urine testing and weighing patients, reporting any abnormalities promptly.

Observe patients’ physical, emotional and psychological condition and raise concerns appropriately.

Support rehabilitation activities and encourage patient independence as appropriate.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, providing reassurance and support. Work collaboratively with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team including therapists and medical staff.

Participate in handovers and contribute relevant patient information when required.

Maintain a clean, safe and well‑organised ward and patient environment. Clean and prepare equipment in line with infection prevention and control policies. Adhere to health and safety regulations, risk assessments and incident reporting. Promote safeguarding principles and raise concerns in line with trust policy.

Accurately record care provided and observations in patient records in line with trust guidelines. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements at all times.

Participate in mandatory training and ongoing development. Work within one’s level of competence and seek support or guidance when required. Engage in supervision, appraisals and competency assessments.

Work shift patterns including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. The post involves physical activity including standing, walking and assisting patients with mobility.


Essential Requirements

Age: Minimum 18 years. Must hold a valid UK right to work.

Qualifications

* NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
* Optional – Care Certificate (desirable).
