Family Department – Paralegal Opportunities
The Paralegal reports directly to the Partner responsible for the department in which they are based. They hold specific responsibilities within the broader framework of the practice’s operations.
* Contributes to the effective functioning of the firm.
* Maintains full familiarity with the contents of the Office Manual.
* Provides assistance to other fee earners as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assists in handling enquiries and managing all aspects of a case from initial instruction to completion, ensuring smooth and efficient case progression.
* Attends client meetings on relevant matters under supervision.
* Accompanies Counsel to court and provides assistance during court sessions as required.
* Responds to new client enquiries and, when necessary, speaks with clients on the day of initial contact.
* Coordinates with the supervising Partner regarding the allocation of new clients to appropriate fee earners.
* Completes Legal Help forms or applies for legal aid where appropriate, following relevant training.
* Ensures completed Legal Help forms are reviewed promptly by the appropriate staff member.
* Carries out tasks authorised by a Partner that align with the general scope of duties.
* Prepares bundles of pleadings and instructs Counsel as needed.
* Records time promptly for all work undertaken.
* Archives closed files in accordance with firm procedures.
* Supports other fee earners with their cases upon request.
* Manages mail and telephone communications in line with Office Manual guidelines.

* Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
* Team-oriented with a collaborative approach.
* Professional and confident telephone manner.
* Composed under pressure.
* Discreet and tactful in handling sensitive matters.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
* Confident in using computers and office equipment.
* Well-organised with strong administrative skills.
