Overview
Are you looking for a role where every day you can make a real difference in a childs life? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Disability Support Worker to join our team in a special school setting. This is a deeply rewarding role supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and non-verbal communication needs.
As a Disability Support Worker, you will do far more than assist in the classroom. You will help children access their education, enjoy sensory experiences, and build communication skills in a safe and nurturing environment. From time spent in sensory rooms where pupils can immerse themselves in calming lights, sounds, and textures, to fun and interactive activities where you encourage turn-taking, expression, and communication through Makaton or AAC devices, your support will be key in helping children flourish.
Key Responsibilities

* Support pupils in sensory rooms and during calming sensory-based activities, encouraging engagement and self-regulation.
* Encourage communication through methods such as Makaton, AAC devices, and gesture-based interaction.
* Assist with daily activities, promoting independence wherever possible, and ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and understood.
* Work alongside teachers, therapists, and other professionals to follow individual plans and provide consistent, tailored support.
* Foster a warm and encouraging atmosphere where learning is fun, playful, and meaningful.
* Support with personal care routines, always in a dignified and respectful way.
Key Requirements
* Experience supporting children or adults with disabilities, especially those with PMLD, ASD, and non-verbal needs, is highly desirable.
* A relevant qualification such as a Teaching Assistant (TA) qualification, Care qualification, or equivalent.
* Compassion, patience, and resilience with a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills, including adapting to different communication styles.
* A positive and caring approach, with the ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
