Job Description

Location: Wimbledon – Hybrid – 3 days in the office

Contract: Fixed-term cover (approx. 7 months)

Salary: £40-48K

Hairdressers Journal International is the leading voice of the professional hairdressing industry, delivering inspiring content, expert insight and the latest trends to our engaged audience across print, digital and social platforms, as well as our in-person awards and events. We are seeking an experienced journalist to join our team on an Acting Deputy Editor basis.

The role

As Acting Deputy Editor, you will be responsible both for creating and writing content, and for assisting the Editor with the smooth-running of Hairdressers Journal International. This is a varied and hands-on role that spans across magazine production, digital content, in-person events, and social media content creation.

Key responsibilities:

* Supporting the smooth-running of Hairdressers Journal International across print and digital platforms
* Write, commission and edit high-quality editorial and sponsored content that informs and inspires our professional audience
* Collaborate with contributors, photographers, designers and the editorial team to deliver each issue on time and to the highest standard
* Oversee and create online and social media output to ensure timely, relevant and engaging content
* Represent Hairdressers Journal International at key industry events (potentially outside of normal working hours) and maintain strong relationships with professionals, brands and partners
* Working closely with sales, marketing and awards teams to deliver events, awards and brand partnerships
* Manage deadlines, sponsored content, budgets and workflow efficiently

About you

We’re looking for a confident and creative journalist who can support the senior team in the smooth running of HJ. You’ll be equally comfortable generating ideas, writing features, and managing a magazine production schedule as you are liaising with key clients and creating commercial content for print, online and social. A passion and experience within the hairdressing industry, trade sector or wider beauty sector is highly desirable.

Skills and experience required:

· Proven editorial experience, ideally at senior content level or a previous Deputy Editor role

· Excellent writing, editing and commissioning skills

· Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

· A solid digital understanding, with experience in CMS, SEO and social media content scheduling – a working knowledge of GA4 desirable

· Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships at all levels

· An interest in professional hairdressing or beauty is a strong advantage
