About The Role
Base Location: The work will be home based, with the Forbury Reading office set as your base location for training and occasional office visits.
Start date: July 2026 (date to be confirmed).
Salary: The role pays £26,239 pro‑rata, with a 10‑hour week to accommodate study responsibilities.
Working Pattern: Part‑Time 1‑Year Fixed Term Contract, shift work with flexible first‑shift options available.
We are looking to recruit a Meteorology student into a part‑time role supporting operational meteorologists in SSE’s Energy Markets (EM) business. EM manages energy trading and balancing for the Group’s wholesale portfolio. This role is ideal for a student in their second or third year, offering the chance to develop skills for a future operational meteorology position.
Your Key Accountabilities
* Review and analyse weather information, providing commentary as required to various parts of the SSE Group.
* Produce and issue weather hazard maps to the business.
* Update and issue temperature forecasts to the business.
* Update weather and renewable energy forecasts to the business.
* Provide insight into short‑term weather patterns.
* Support our Forecasting & Trading teams, working closely with Senior Meteorologists to develop your experience, with increasing responsibilities as your knowledge grows.
What do I need?
* A genuine interest and passion for understanding and interpreting weather systems.
* Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
* Motivated, self‑starter with the capacity to work independently, and as part of a remote team.
* Some experience of analytical tools is desirable but not essential.
