Main Purpose of the Role & Responsibilities

As an experienced Bid Writer in the Healthcare sector of our Digital Services business, you will create compliant, submission‑grade content for bid responses, ensuring the high quality of our proposals to win new business. As a pivotal part of our pre‑sales function, you will collaborate closely with sales leads and bid teams to understand our clients’ real requirements, develop our win themes, author high‑scoring responses, and guide the team to a high‑quality, end‑to‑end proposal.
You will join our pre‑sales team as part of our sales community, where you will bring your analytical and authoring skills, together with a strong interest to further develop your industry knowledge. You will be joining a passionate and growing Healthcare sector team intent on transforming the industry through data, technology and responsible innovation, to help people live longer, healthier lives and unlock new clinical breakthroughs.
Based at home but required to travel to Kainos London and other locations whenever appropriate.
* Understand bid requirements, create storyboards, and produce response plans.
* Ensure compliance with bid requirements, client’s formal procurement processes, and internal Kainos bidding processes, including completion of appropriate review processes.
* Apply win themes and follow bid strategy – leveraging Kainos and partner strengths, and understanding business and market intelligence in order to develop bid‑specific win themes.
* Fully answer questions by writing, editing, and reviewing submission responses, drawing on contributions and collateral.
* Engage with SMEs for content through interviewing and knowledge elicitation sessions.
* Draft content and edit; track and report progress – plan and manage all aspects of a coherent, high‑quality response including alignment with the Bid Manager to coordinate bid team inputs, timeline and review activities.
* Contribute to bid productivity improvements – own and drive bid production continuous improvement initiatives, including AI tooling adoption, and cross‑sector collaboration.
* Upskill people – train staff new to bid responses in best‑practice approaches, as well as educate and share knowledge with sales/account teams and customers in relation to bid production.
Minimum (Essential) Requirements
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a commercial environment with IT bidding experience and a sound awareness of current technology and business trends.
* Some familiarity with the technical detail relating to the delivery of modern digital services (including bespoke software delivery, agile methodologies etc.).
* Experience in bid writing of customer proposals of significant scale.
* Strong awareness and understanding of what constitutes submission‑grade content.
* Highly capable of multi‑tasking and prioritising tasks with the ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
* Proven ability to motivate team members and lead by example.
* Passion for developing people – demonstrated ability in mentoring and coaching colleagues and contributing to the wider community.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex proposals succinctly.
* Strong critical thinking skills to interpret and disaggregate complex compound client bid questions to form clear, well‑structured responses.
* Self‑starter, highly motivated and proactive with respect to personal development.
* Affable, credible and enthusiastic, priding themselves on delivering high quality work.
Desirable
* Understanding of IT procurement frameworks used in the UK Healthcare and Public Sector, such as Digital Capability for Health 2, Digital Outcomes and Specialists, and G‑Cloud.
* Hands‑on experience delivering digital services using Agile and user‑centred design methods.
* Familiarity with the UK Healthcare delivery landscape, including the organisational structure of the NHS and related healthcare bodies.
* Understanding of how Generative AI tooling can improve the efficiency of bid production without compromising the accuracy or integrity of responses.
