General Manager

Circa £55,000 (depending on experience)
Our client is a long-established and highly respected manufacturing business. As part of their continued evolution and growth strategy, they are seeking an accomplished General Manager to work closely with the Managing Director and play a pivotal role in leading the business operationally and strategically. This is a senior leadership position with full responsibility for driving performance across the business ensuring it is well positioned for sustainable long-term growth.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the General Manager will take a leading role in the day-to-day management of the business, while also shaping and executing growth initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
Partner with the Managing Director in the overall leadership, direction, and operational management of the business
Lead business growth initiatives, including new customer acquisition and development of existing accounts
Take ownership of all pre-production activity, ensuring efficient and commercially sound job launches
Oversee customer engagement from enquiry through to production readiness, including material procurement
Provide technical leadership through the interpretation of engineering drawings and advising on product applications
Work closely with manufacturing teams to optimise processes, efficiency, and delivery performance
Hold full responsibility for Health & Safety compliance across the site
Lead client projects, ensuring clear communication, coordination, and delivery against expectations
Manage and develop relationships with subcontractors and external partners
Contribute to and execute strategic planning aligned with the company's long-term growth objectivesSkills, Experience & Leadership Profile
Proven leadership experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
Strong commercial acumen with a track record of driving business growth
Confident negotiator with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Apprentice trained or HNC qualified in an engineering discipline (preferred)
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments
Highly organised leader with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple workstreams
A natural leader and relationship builder, able to influence at all levels
Proactive, decisive, and solutions-focused with the ability to anticipate challengesPackage & Benefits
Salary circa £55,000, dependent on experience
Working hours: Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 5:00pm and Friday: 8:00am - 1:00pm
28 days holiday, rising to 34 days with service (including bank holidays)
