H W Forestry Ltd, part of the Western Bio-Energy Group, supplies forest management advice and consultancy services to a broad range of clients across Wales. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Forestry Technician to join our team based in WBE Ltd, Margam, Neath Port Talbot.
What you will do:
1. Woodland Creation Planning: Support the Woodland Creation Manager by drafting woodland creation plans and producing woodland creation maps using our GIS system. Arrange all pre-application requests for clients.
2. Woodland Creation Grant applications: Track and report on the progress of clients' Woodland Creation Grant applications via the Rural Payments Wales portal, undertake appropriate actions, claim grants, and keep all parties informed.
3. Woodland Creation Consultation: Conduct consultations required by the woodland creation process within set timescales, including liaising with neighbours.
4. Woodland Carbon Code: Act as the Carbon Developer for H W Forestry, responsible for registration, validation, verification, and providing woodland carbon estimates for project planning.
5. Data Management (GIS): Maintain GIS data, ensuring accuracy and currency.
6. Costing and Estimating: Maintain costing models, prepare estimates, issue purchase and work orders, and manage pesticide records.
7. Harvesting and Marketing: Conduct or arrange pre-sales inventory, prepare parcels for tender, and administer sales to contract completion.
8. Tree Safety: Maintain Tree Safety Data in GIS, prepare draft hazard assessment reports, and conduct Level 4 tree inspections.
Candidate Profile:
We seek a highly motivated individual eager to develop technical skills, working closely with experienced professionals. Strong communication skills and confidence in engaging with clients, regulatory bodies, and professionals are essential. Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage priorities is required. Ideally, the candidate will have:
* Relevant academic/technical qualifications and experience
* Experience providing technical support in a regulatory or land-related field
* Understanding of current forestry practices and the woodland carbon code
* Full UK Driving Licence
