We are looking to appoint motivated consultant laparoscopic general surgeons with a specialist interest in Upper GI. These are dual location posts between Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen and Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest. The out of hour on-call for emergency general surgery will take place at Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest and the frequency is a 1:4.
For the posts we require experienced surgeons who are able to manage the spectrum of surgical problems encountered in a rural district general hospital. The successful applicants will have wide experience in General Surgery and colorectal with laparoscopic skills. There are two permanent posts available.
The posts are offered on the amended terms of the Consultant Contract Wales on an optional whole time 37.5 hour working week, 10 sessions.
Main duties of the job
* To ensure the provision and delivery of a quality and safe clinical service
* To provide effective leadership to all junior staff engaged in the specialty
* To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
* To undertake all work in accordance with the health board's procedures and operating policies
* To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the health board's service plans
* To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health board
* Core clinical expertise in General Surgery
* Endoscopy and Laparoscopic Upper GI Surgery
* Leadership and team building skills as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Supporting and training multidisciplinary teams
* To support the scheduled care directorate in meeting referral to treatment ministerial targets and SCP (standard cancer pathway) targets
* Delivering care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams
* You are expected to maintain your professional development for revalidation
* A teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates
* Educational Supervisor role to Junior and SAS Level medical staff
