Line Management: Head of Human Resources. Job Purpose:
We are seeking a committed and knowledgeable Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in preventing harm and fostering a positive health and safety culture within the workplace. You will ensure compliance with safety legislation, promote safety policies, and implement effective safety measures
Key Strengths:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience and knowledge of working in the food sector is preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with staff at all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
• Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and producing reports.
Key Responsibilities:
• Carry out thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend strategies for risk reduction.
• Develop and outline safe operational procedures considering all relevant hazards.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
• Prepare comprehensive health and safety strategies, internal policies, and management reports that suggest improvements.
• Lead in-house training sessions for managers and employees on health and safety issues and risks.
• Maintain records of inspection findings, incident reports, and accident statistics for management review.
• Stay updated on new legislation and maintain extensive knowledge of Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and developments relevant to our industry.
• Participate in training courses and webinars offered by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and engage with professional journals.
• Ensure all equipment is installed safely and that hazardous materials are disposed of properly.
• Provide expert advice on various safety issues, including fire regulations, noise, and occupational diseases.
Education:
• A degree in occupational health and safety, risk management, environmental health, or a related field is highly desirable.
• Recognised qualifications such as IOSH-accredited certifications, NEBOSH, or City & Guilds.
• Previous experience in a health and safety role, or as part of a related field, is an advantage.
Skills:
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
• Methodical, detail-oriented, and organised.
• Effective time management and adaptability
• Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
Working Hours:
• Typical working hours are from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of irregular hours for emergencies.
• Opportunities for hybrid working with a minimum of 3 days in the office or site visits.
• The position will require time spent on-site at various locations, including Abattiors, Boarder Control sites, and food storage units.
Base Location:
This role is based within Vorenta Head Office in Berkeley, Gloucestershire
