Job Summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare team at HMP Lewes, a category B remand prison based in Lewes, East Sussex. The prison houses around 692 patients aged between 18–65 years. In this role you will support the intake of new patients into the prison and work closely with the multi‑disciplinary team, including substance misuse nurses and the early days mental health team, to deliver high‑quality healthcare services. Suitable applicants must have experience and feel confident prescribing controlled substances.
Legal Right to Work – Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Hours and Pattern
Part‑time: 1 weekday evening (6 pm‑10 pm) + 1 Saturday per month (2‑6 pm). Sessions are face‑to‑face with patients on site at HMP Lewes.
Salary
Annual salary up to £134,680 FTE per annum, depending on experience.

Main Duties
* Deliver first‑class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and further develop knowledge in areas beyond routine practice or A&E.
* Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis, and make timely decisions regarding future management.
* Act as a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team and support patients with active involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Qualifications Required
* MBChB or MBBS
* Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
* Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
* Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Ability to work with patients who have a history of substance misuse
* RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
