Medical Secretary – Vascular Assessment Unit
To provide a supervisory medical secretarial service to the consultant(s)/team and/or group of clinical staff in an efficient and timely manner. This post is part of a professional multi-skilled team working across the administration services.
The key responsibilities of this role are the effective and efficient management of specific departmental and patient administration systems, ensuring strict adherence and compliance to all Trust Policies and procedures.
Responsible to undertake the role of medical secretary for the Vascular Assessment Unit team.
The Vascular Assessment Unit provides a wide range of non invasive tests, mainly using ultrasound, to diagnose and monitor peripheral arterial and venous disease. The service is available to surgeons and physicians within the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, with particular service responsibilities to the Vascular Surgical, Cardiothoracic, Neurology and Renal Services. There is also some provision for direct GP requests. Over 3,500 investigations are done annually. The post holder provides full secretarial support for this service.
Main duties of the job
Book scanning sessions for the Vascular Assessment Unit, ensuring that there is an efficient use of the appointments, taking into account staff availability. Appointments are booked through CRIS system.
Send out appointments in accordance with Trust policy.
Liase with outpatient appointment staff to ensure scans are arranged to fit in with outpatient appointments.
Type the reports on the radiology system and send the reports to the referring clinician in a timely manner.
Manage Vascular Lab/surveillance waiting list.
Prioritise own workload including the typing of reports, sending out appointments and filing.

Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE or equivalent standard in English and Mathematics.
* Demonstrable previous medical secretarial experience
* Demonstrable experience in the use of word processors, database and spreadsheet packages
* Proven knowledge in the use of clinical based computerised systems
* Excellent organisational skills
* Demonstrable experience in using digital dictation or voice recognition software
* Ability to use initiative

Salaries and Working Conditions
£24,937 to £26,598 a year (Per Annum, Pro Rata)
