The forest craftsperson supports the Beat Forester in managing and maintaining forest land through a variety of practical tasks. Key responsibilities include tree planting, vegetation control, fencing repairs, high pruning, felling, and hazardous tree surveys. You’ll also assist with estate maintenance, recreation trail surveys, and operational data collection. The position involves operating tools and machinery, ensuring health and safety compliance, and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver efficient work programmes. This role requires a proactive, safety-conscious individual passionate about forestry, the environment and enjoys outdoor work. Essential skills and experience Practical experience in forestry or countryside/environmental management Knowledge of forestry, arboriculture, and conservation Competent use of hand tools and IT (MS Office) Strong communication and teamwork skills Awareness of health and safety systems (FISA guidelines) Qualifications City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 or equivalent in forestry skills (chainsaw, felling) Full UK driving licence (or alternative arrangements) Desirable Additional forestry qualifications, pesticide application, emergency first aid, and GCSEs in Maths and English.
