An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accountant ideally with experience in the membership body, not-for-profit, or charity sector, to join a highly respected organisation. Overview
This is a varied and hands‑on role, ideally suited to an Accountant with strong sector experience and a particular strength in VAT. You will take ownership of VAT and tax compliance, alongside core financial responsibilities, while contributing to ongoing improvements in systems and processes.
Working as part of a supportive finance team, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial data and providing meaningful insight to support decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
* Preparing subsidiary financial statements and supporting consolidated accounts
* Ensuring accurate recording and reconciliation of financial transactions, including intercompany balances
* Preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns, partial exemption, and ensuring full compliance with HMRC requirements
* Acting as the main point of contact for external VAT and Corporation Tax advisors
* Maintaining the fixed asset register and overseeing key balance sheet reconciliations
* Monitoring debtor and creditor positions, managing aged balances proactively
* Supporting the development and enhancement of finance systems (including Dynamics 365 Business Central)
* Maintaining and strengthening financial controls, policies, and procedures
* Overseeing cash flow, investments, and fund accounting activities
* Managing payroll accounting, including reconciliation of salaries, pensions, and associated liabilities
* Ensuring pension contributions are accurately recorded and aligned across payroll and finance
* Reviewing supplier payment runs and expense processes
* Acting as a key contact for auditors, banks, and external stakeholders
