Offer description

St Joseph’s Hospice – one of the oldest and largest hospices in the UK, providing specialist palliative care and support across East London – is seeking a Legacy and In-Memory Officer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a compassionate and dynamic fundraising team, delivering and developing the legacy fundraising and in-memory giving programmes.


Key Responsibilities

* Raising awareness of gifts in Wills and growing the number of legacy enquiries, with a view to increasing the number of people who remember St Joseph’s Hospice in their will.
* Working with local solicitors to deliver regular Will-Writing Workshops.
* Providing excellent stewardship to bereaved families, developing appropriate campaigns, products and events, and establishing long-term relationships.
* Leading on the Flowers of Celebration in‑memory product, including management of mailings and delivery of the accompanying event.
* Implementing donor journeys for new and existing in‑memory and legacy supporters to increase retention, engagement and long-term support.
* Managing an expenditure budget of approximately £25k to deliver £250k in income.


Skills and Experience

* Knowledge of fundraising techniques, trends and principles, including the Fundraising Code of Practice and GDPR.
* Ability to handle conversations with bereaved people who may become distressed, in a manner that reflects the St Joseph’s Hospice value of compassion.
* Ability to develop positive relationships internally with the fundraising team and wider hospice staff, and externally with event providers and suppliers.
* Genuine interest in working to St Joseph’s Hospice mission and values, supporting people with life‑limiting illness.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to provide exceptional supporter stewardship and build long-term relationships.
* Minimum of two years’ experience working in a fundraising role (desirable).
* Experience of working to a budget (desirable).
* Ability to evaluate and analyse campaign performance to better plan future events and activities (desirable).
* Understanding of the basics of Will‑writing and legacy administration (desirable).
* 27 days’ holiday plus public holidays, increasing up to 33 days with service.

Salary: Band 5 - £34,172 to £43,647 per annum inclusive.

Location: London E8 4SA.

Contract/hours: Permanent, full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.
