We are delighted to offer this opportunity for a 10 session Specialty Doctor within O& G services at Singleton Hospital within Swansea Bay University Health Board.


Main duties of the job

You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with your colleagues and under the direction of a Consultant, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Working with your colleagues and the multi‑professional team you will have continuing responsibility for the well‑being of all patients under your care allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff. In partnership with clinical and managerial colleagues you will also have responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board. You are encouraged to consider how services can be improved and to report any concerns about safety.


About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot. Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings. We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals. The Health Board is part of A Regional Collaboration for Health (ARCH), which is a partnership with Hywel Dda UHB and Swansea University. Aimed at improving the wellbeing and wealth of Southwest Wales.


Job description

This role will require working on a full shift rota and participation in a 1:10 resident on call shift pattern for a 12‑hour period allowing time for handover with prospective cover.


Job responsibilities

You may be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Where such duties take place outside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalent off‑duty period or will be remunerated appropriately.

Qualifications


Essential

* Full GMC Registration
* MRCOG part I or equivalent
* 4 years full‑time postgraduate training (or part‑time equivalent), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty, or as a fixed‑term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies. The ability to work as a middle grade (registrar level) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology backed with evidence


Desirable

* MRCOG parts 2 & 3
* Further relevant degree/diploma/teaching qualification


Experience


Essential

* Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
* Commitment to team approach and multi‑disciplinary working
* Ability to work as a middle grade whilst on call
* Working as part of the management team
* Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff
* Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit


Desirable

* Liaison with other agencies
* Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS working practices and systems.


Skills & Abilities


Essential

* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
* Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior doctors as appropriate
* Ability to manage own time and workload
* Experience of the assessment of emergencies
* Able to work as a member of a team or on one’s own
* Good verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff
* Understanding of information systems and technology
