Overview
Applications are invited for the post of a NHS Locum Interventional Cardiologist for a 12-month fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity in an area with high clinical demand.
Responsibilities
The post will consist of 10 PAs to deliver independent cardiology services to inpatients and outpatients. The 10 PAs will be flexible but indicatively will consist of 8 to 8.5 direct clinical care (DCC) sessions and 2 to 1.5 supporting professional activities (SPA) sessions per week. The majority of the appointee’s time will be spent on clinical duties. The appointee will also be expected to:
* Conduct daily clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients.
* Provide immediate care to deteriorating patients including initial resuscitation where appropriate.
* Make appropriate referrals to other specialist teams.
* Support safe discharge and follow-up.
* Adhere to local and national guidance and contribute to guidance development.
* Deliver outpatient clinics.
* Participate in CCU and Cardiology Ward rounds.
* Carry out Cath Lab sessions (elective and emergency/inpatient cases).
* Review patient results and investigations in a timely fashion.
* Prepare correspondence, reports and other documents as required.
* Teach junior doctors and contribute to the formal teaching programme.
* Participate in clinical audit and research.
* Take part in the Cardiologist Consultant on-call rota.
* Perform additional duties allocated by the Clinical Director to ensure proper patient care and department management.
Additional duties may be required outside normal rostered hours to maintain essential patient care and to deputise for absent colleagues.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice training.
* Certification in Advanced Life Support (ALS) or recognised equivalents.
* Ability to act in a team leadership role during critical events, following appropriate life support guidelines.
* Strong clinical judgement and flexibility to develop and cross-cover for colleagues where feasible.
