Senior Specialist Pharmacy Technician (Medication Safety)

This is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician with a passion for medication safety to work at a national level and help make improvements in medication safety across the system.
The successful applicant will:
* contribute to the delivery and development of a programme of work to support the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) Medicines Use and Safety (MUS) team's delivery against national Medicines Safety Improvement Programme (MedSIP) objectives
* work closely with the national MedSIP team and other key external stakeholders in the development and delivery of national medicines safety improvement initiatives
* contribute to the development, delivery and maintenance of quality assured MUS workstream resources to support commissioners, organisations and health professionals (resources may be webinars, podcasts, videos, website articles and workspaces on NHS Futures)
Whilst this post is hosted by the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the expectation is that the individual will work remotely. This is a 0.4 whole time equivalent fixed-term band 6 post until 31st March 2027. Secondments will be considered.

About SPS The NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) supports the NHS to develop best practice systems of work related to buying, making and using medicines. The service provides leadership, instructive and informative specialist input and operational support to the sourcing, supply and use of medicines across the system. Our strengths are borne out of connecting national expertise with policy teams and arm's length bodies to ensure consistency and high standards. The service supports both regional and local connections to ensure that the service's outputs resonate with and support local NHS organisations which deliver care to patients. The key successes of SPS are through the development and delivery of their "Do Once and Share" methodology.

Job responsibilities
Delivers outcomes within agreed timescales following liaison with relevant stakeholders across England.
Develops and maintains appropriate resources on the SPS website, ensuring accuracy of information which is up to date with current policy and practice, applies all governance requirements and meets website key performance indicators (KPIs).
Contributes to the outputs of the MUS workstreams for example, networking events.
Contributes to uniting and integrating SPS outputs to ensure all resources are shared across the country, thus maximising efficiency and productivity.
Is proficient in methods of data capture, analysis, and communication and able to deal with large amounts of information on a continuous basis, including internet, email, wordprocessing, presentation (PowerPoint), database and spreadsheet applications.
Presents reports and data that have been collected or supported by the MUS Team at national meetings and conferences.
Contributes to local and national task groups and workstreams.
Engages with practitioners and subject matter experts to gather intelligence e.g. through regional networks.
Maintains a robust understanding of health policy developments that impact on the delivery of the MUS outputs and informs the business planning and service needs assessments for the team.
Undertakes any other duties as required by the Director of Medicines Use and Safety.
Qualifications
* Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or a qualification listed by the General Pharmaceutical Council pre 2017 Standards
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
* Qualification in Quality Improvement, Leadership Project Management similar
Experience
* Multidisciplinary working
* Demonstrable post registration experience in hospital pharmacy, particularly in the area of medication safety
* Project management
Knowledge
* Contemporary knowledge of NHS policy and detailed understanding of its application in primary, secondary and tertiary care
* A clear understanding of programme and project management
* Knowledge of medication safety and how it relates to healthcare
* Prior use of WordPress or similar content management system (e.g. Drupal) to publish webpage. Prior knowledge of principles of good online publishing
* Knowledge of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service and its role in delivery of Medicines Optimisation, Medication Safety and Medicines Governance
* Practical understanding of implementing quality improvement methodology
* Knowledge of challenges faced with time critical medicines in acute care settings
Skills
* Ability to manage own time and workload with good organisational skills
* Ability to influence the work of and motivate others, including those without direct line management responsibility
* Excellent communication skills, including oral presentations and written
* Excellent leadership skills with evidence of being an effective team player
* Ability to use MS Office software packages and other packages that support efficient, national team operations e.g. MS Teams, SharePoint, NHS Futures
