Overview
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, helping ensure people get their driving futures off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
We will provide all the training you need
Our test centres are grouped into clusters, so you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer is made, you will start training online, then undertake practical training at a local test centre. You will have up to three weeks of guidance at a regional training facility before embarking on a fulfilling and varied career in which you will assess the readiness of drivers seeking to secure their licences.
Responsibilities
* Meet people from all walks of life while overseeing driving examinations (approximately seven per day).
* Put customers at ease with exceptional people skills and explain instructions clearly.
* Record results on a tablet and determine whether candidates meet the required standards.
* Deliver positive and negative outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
To make the most of this challenge
You will respect every learner and driving instructor, with a deep appreciation for diversity and inclusivity. You will have exceptional verbal and non‑verbal communication skills, remain calm under pressure, and be a safe driver with a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years. You must have no more than three penalty points, a good knowledge of the Highway Code and correct road procedures, and be friendly and team-spirited with a passion for setting lasting standards.
What you can expect in return
In addition to ongoing training and development, you can expect an excellent work‑life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays, an extra privilege day for the King’s birthday, and an employer contribution to your pension of up to 27%.
If you are ready to embark on an interesting career where no two days are the same, get in touch.
