The Department of Medical Statistics (MSD), which includes the LSHTM Clinical Trials Unit, is a leading innovative centre for biostatistical methodology relevant to medical research. We wish to appoint a statistician to work on a project to identify the most promising outcome measures for future clinical trials in Alzheimer’s Disease aimed at delaying or stopping the disease before long-term permanent damage occurs. The role will include establishing which biomarkers are the most promising outcomes for future trials, and what sample sizes are required for various trial designs. The post-holder will join a group of statisticians based in MSD, who provide statistical input within long-standing and high impact research collaborations with the Dementia Research Centre at the Institute of Neurology, UCL. The role also includes teaching of postgraduate students at LSHTM.
The post-holder must have a postgraduate degree in a relevant topic (ideally Medical Statistics or equivalent) and relevant experience in using regression models for data analysis and statistical software packages. They also must have demonstrated knowledge of longitudinal data analysis methods, and an understanding of sample size calculations. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is part-time, 0.5 FTE and fixed-term until 31 January 2029. The post is funded by the Alzheimer's Society and is available from 01 March 2026.
The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 6 spine point 32, £45,728 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
