Overview
Lead IPT Manufacturing Engineer (H/F) – SAFRAN SEATS GB LIMITED role at AEROCONTACT. Safran Seats is a major global manufacturer of aircraft seats, with industrial and engineering teams in the UK. In the UK, Safran Seats specialises in First Class and Business Class seating for wide body aircraft, with teams in Cwmbran and Newport, Wales and Brackley, England. As IPT lead manufacturing engineer, you will lead a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians and ensure product designs meet manufacturing and assembly requirements. A solid background in new product introduction from a manufacturing environment is required.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure design reviews are supported at the right level and issues communicated, logged and resolved.
* Lead the team to highlight and eliminate design-for-assembly/manufacture issues at each key stage of the programme; run lessons learned sessions on previous design issues at project start.
* Collaborate with other engineering functions to agree development build requirements; ensure builds are carried out and necessary improvements made.
* Ensure make vs buy activities are conducted on time and aligned with the company’s core competencies; review make vs buy strategy with Purchasing and propose changes.
* Develop a production strategy with Operations to meet customer requirements; estimate CAPEX for tooling.
* Eliminate wastes during production process design; train the team in lean methodologies.
* Ensure APQP & PPAP documentation is compiled and released on time and at the appropriate quality level.
* Ensure PFMEAs are completed and all actions closed; periodically review aerospace standards for updates to FMEA methodology.
* Work with Systems Engineering to define validation and verification requirements for new products; ensure these are built into the project plan.
* Identify tools and equipment requirements; budget and capture ergonomic and health & safety requirements in specification documents.
* Plan and achieve industrialisation deliverables for key events (PDR, CDR, Test builds, PTR, PPAP); resolve industrialisation and production issues before BOM release.
* Perform root cause analysis as required; organise the required team and ensure the process is carried out.
* Review engineering drawings; consider tolerances' effect on the assembly process; ensure industrialisation timing plans are available and accurate to justify resource requirements.
* Keep programmes on track per programme and department gate schedules.
Candidate qualifications
* B.Eng. in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Aerospace Engineering OR HND via apprenticeship.
* Minimum of 10 years in aerospace or automotive manufacturing environment.
* Proven experience in leading and developing a technical team.
* Experience with company and regulatory processes, standards and specifications.
* Excellent knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly principles; good knowledge of manufacturing processes.
* Strong application of Lean Six Sigma principles; APQP & PPAP; PFMEA.
* Proficiency with 3D CAD modelling software; ability to interpret 2D drawings. CATIA experience preferred.
