We’re Hiring: Refuge Support Worker (Evenings & Sleeping Nights)Salary: Grade D - £26,806 - £27,743 FTE (Pro Rata)Location: Leyland Hours: 22 hours per week on rota. Refuge Support Worker - Make a difference when it matters mostAre you calm under pressure, compassionate, and committed to women’s safety? We’re looking for a Refuge Support Worker to provide overnight security, safeguarding and wellbeing support for women and children in refuge accommodation.You will often be the sole responsible member of staff on site overnight, so you’ll need confidence in decision-making, risk awareness, excellent recording skills, and a trauma-informed approach.This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants a meaningful role in domestic abuse services, refuge support, women’s safety, and safeguarding-especially across evenings and sleep-in nights.Please note - This post is open to female applicants only, as this role is a Genuine Occupational Requirement as recognised by Equality Act 2010. Each year, we help more than 7000 people across Lancashire achieve their potential, with our Domestic Abuse services playing a crucial role in supporting survivors and their families.We're looking for someone passionate about supporting individuals experiencing domestic abuse, with a proven track record in providing trauma-informed specialist case management and advocacy to victims at medium and high risk of domestic abuse. Make a real difference overnight We’re looking for a compassionate and resilient Refuge Support Worker to safeguard the safety, security and wellbeing of women and children in our refuge during evenings and sleep-in nights. You’ll often be the sole member of staff on site overnight, responding to incidents, managing risk, supporting admissions and ensuring a calm, trauma-informed environment. Please note - this role is on a Rota Basis - Full details of the rota can be found on the Job Pack attached. Key responsibilities Provide emotional and practical support to residents during eveningsWelcome and safely admit new residents out of hoursRespond to the domestic abuse helpline, including overnight callsDe-escalate incidents using trauma-informed approachesSleep on site and respond to emergencies, safeguarding concerns and incidentsContact emergency services and on-call managers when requiredComplete accurate records and detailed morning handovers What we’re looking for Essential: Experience supporting vulnerable people or working in a safeguarding environmentConfidence working alone overnight and responding to emergenciesStrong communication, de-escalation and record-keeping skillsUnderstanding of confidentiality, risk and safeguarding Desirable: Experience in domestic abuse, refuge or housing servicesFirst Aid or safeguarding training Progression and Professional Development We are committed to helping you develop your career.
