About the role:
The Engineering & Manufacturing Support Technician Apprenticeship (ST1395) is a three-year program starting in September 2025.
Year One involves full-time college study in the South-West region, leading to a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technologies.
After a successful Gateway Interview, you will progress to Years Two and Three, completing four six-month technical placements at locations including Barrow-in-Furness, Bristol, Helensburgh, Plymouth, and Rosyth.
In Year Three, there may be an opportunity to start an HNC qualification.
Upon successful completion of the scheme and End Point Assessment at Year Three's end, you may be appointed to a permanent role within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise, with potential for permanent relocation to one of the listed waterfront locations. The scheme is open to anyone over 16 years old at the start of the apprenticeship.
Responsibilities:
* Support engineering staff with technical activities across the business while developing your own skills.
* Contribute to delivering engineering products/services in line with objectives.
* Gain knowledge and experience across a multi-disciplined organization.
You will be supported by your Apprentice Manager and a Placement Supervisor throughout the scheme.
You will participate in professional and personal development opportunities, workshops, and a peer mentoring scheme, providing ample opportunities to reach your potential and become a valuable asset to the SDA Engineering Function and beyond.
Requirements
Security
Due to the classification of much of the role, all posts are open to UK Nationals only.
Offers of employment are subject to satisfactory pre-employment and security checks, including an Occupational Health Assessment and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). You will need to confirm your identity, employment/education history, nationality, and any criminal record (unspent convictions only).
The required security level is Security Check (SC), and applicants should usually have been continuously resident in the UK for 5 years prior to clearance.
If you have lived overseas or traveled extensively during this period, it may impact the time needed to obtain full security clearance and could affect your employment offer. All information requests must be completed fully and promptly to avoid delays. Offers are also contingent on achieving acceptable grades where predicted.
Applicants must have, or be studying to attain, a minimum of four full GCSEs A-C or grades 4-9 (or equivalent), including English Language, Maths, and a Science or Engineering-related subject, plus one additional subject. Grades must be achieved by August 2025 if applying with predicted grades.
Please distinguish between an English Language or English Literature qualification when applying.
Relevant work experience demonstrating engineering project skills, including internships, work experience, or practical assignments, is desirable.
Formal certificates must be provided within three months of signing the contract; failure to do so will result in contract withdrawal.
