Communications Officer – Internal Communications
Location: Yeovil | Sector: Defence
We’re looking for a talented and trustworthy Communications Officer to lead and enhance our internal communications activity within a dynamic defence environment based in Yeovil.
This role is ideal for a confident writer and editor who can turn complex information into clear, engaging content that informs, connects and inspires our people.
About the role:
You will primarily focus on internal communications — ensuring colleagues across the organisation understand our priorities, performance, and direction. Working with senior stakeholders, you’ll manage content across digital platforms, develop compelling stories, and continuously improve how we communicate internally.
Key Responsibilities
1. Write and edit high-quality internal communications content
2. Manage and maintain digital communication platforms
3. Translate complex operational and technical information into engaging narratives
4. Support leadership messaging and change communications
5. Build and maintain strong relationships with key community stakeholders
6. Identify opportunities to improve channels, tone and engagement
7. Ensure accuracy, discretion and professionalism at all times
About You
8. Excellent writing and editing skills
9. Strong digital content management experience
10. High level of integrity and trustworthiness
11. Confident handling sensitive or complex information
12. Curious and proactive about improving internal communications
13. Comfortable working in a structured defence environment

Entry Requirements
14. A minimum of a 2:2 Bachelor’s/Integrated Master’s degree, or higher degree, such as MSc or PhD in a relevant subject.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Anadditionalrange of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
