Overview Two Consultant posts due to expanding service, based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital with occasional cross‑site working and GI‑bleed on‑call commitment across QEH/UHL. The post holder will contribute to the General Internal Medicine (GIM) commitment in line with Trust arrangements which currently relates to participation in the Gastroenterology inpatient model and GI bleed on‑call. There is no requirement for participation in the acute unselected medical take. Applicants must be included in the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine or be within three months of CCST accreditation. The successful applicants will provide a comprehensive high‑quality Gastroenterology service.
Clinical Responsibilities
Diagnose and treat upper and lower gastrointestinal conditions using diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Provide an outpatient Gastroenterology service, including patient administration.
Manage inpatient Gastroenterology patients and participate in daily ward rounds (shared between consultants).
Lead two consultant clinics (12 slots each: 5 new, 7 follow‑ups) and two endoscopy sessions (12 points per AM list and 10 points per PM list).
Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings and monthly governance meetings.
Contribute to the development of the specialty, introduction of new services, and educational programmes, including weekly departmental meetings and teaching.
Act as joint clinical supervisor for SpRs in Gastroenterology and other resident doctors.
Participate in pathology, multidisciplinary team meetings, medical audit, and the Trust consultant appraisal process.
Comply with continuing professional development and re‑validation requirements set by the Royal College of Physicians.
Receive time and financial support for professional activities; a senior consultant will act as a mentor for the first 12 months.

MBBS or equivalent
GMC registration
MRCP or equivalent
CCT / Specialist Register in Gastroenterology and GIM
