Job Summary
Following the government's 2017 green paper on transforming children and young people's mental health provision, Mind in West Essex has established a Children and Young Peoples (CYP) Mental Health Support Team. The team works with children, young people, families, and educational settings to provide low‑intensity CBT‑based interventions and develop whole‑school approaches to mental health.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver low‑intensity CBT‑based interventions for child anxiety, challenging behaviour, adolescent anxiety, and adolescent low mood.
* Provide parent/carer support in child anxiety and challenging behaviour.
* Facilitate evidence‑based group sessions on emotional regulation, child anxiety, challenging behaviour for primary aged children, and a variety of topics for secondary school/further education students.
* Work with diverse cultural backgrounds using interpreters when necessary.
* Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in educational settings.
* Refer individuals with more severe difficulties to specialist services and assist with signposting.
* Identify, assess and manage risk, maintaining safety protocols.
* Engage staff in education to identify and manage mental health and wellbeing issues.
* Collaborate with partnership organisations and stakeholders to co‑produce services.
* Maintain accurate records and complete required data collection.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and provide direct assistance where necessary.

Requirements
Essential Qualifications
* PG Dip Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP).
* Registered with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP) or BPS, or eligibility for registration within 6 months of appointment.
* Valid UK driving licence and/or access to transport across West Essex.
Essential Experience & Skills
* Evidence of delivering outcome‑focused, evidence‑based interventions in educational settings.
* Experience supporting children, young people, parents/carers, families, and educators in self‑management of mental health difficulties.
* Ability to assess, plan, and manage caseloads, including risk assessment and signposting to specialist services.
* Strong communication, organisational, and collaborative skills.
* Resilience and ability to work calmly under pressure.
* Proficiency with office software and IT systems.
* Demonstrated commitment to inclusive values and diversity.
Professional and Regulatory Requirements
* Secure Disclosure and Barring Service check following the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order). A DBS application will be made.
* Maintain current UK professional registration.
Benefits
