Job Summary
Working under the direct supervision of the practice nursing team and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job
* Obtain patients consent for the collection of a blood sample
* Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
* Maintaining accurate patient records
* Correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
* Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
* Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
* Maintaining an effective liaison with laboratory staff
Other clinical duties include: BP, pulse, pulse oximetry and temperature readings; facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring; urinalysis; new patient checks; undertake wound care and dressings; ECG recording; B12 injections; flu, pneumonia and shingles injections (training provided if necessary); support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics; spirometry (training provided if necessary); ear irrigation (training provided if necessary); chaperoning duties; processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses; vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording; preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during minor operations; assisting in health and wellbeing surveillance and data collection.

Staff include Physician Associates, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician, ANP social prescribers, Health & Wellbeing Coach, and experienced nurses. Own dispensary. Community team includes District Nurses, Community Matron, Midwife, and Care Co-ordinator. Part of South Derby PCN. Long established training Practice for GPs and Student Nurses. SystmOne clinical system with Ardens templates, AccuRx, iGPR and TeamNet. CQC rating of good in all areas.
