Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person with relevant experience and skills to join our Monitoring Laboratory based in Leeds. You will directly contribute to the Environment Agency’s response to climate change by working with a small team to analyse solid and liquid environmental samples.
Responsibilities
* Receiving deliveries of samples and goods
* Registering samples using the laboratory computer system
* Providing support to the team and customers
* Undertaking daily quality checks of equipment
* Managing and storing samples, including logistics and disposal
* Keeping work areas tidy
* Ensuring Health and Safety procedures are adhered to
* Carrying out routine laboratory tasks such as calibrations, stock control and making analytical standards
* Shifting on pollution incident rota
Team Overview
You’ll work with a small team alongside approximately 50 other analytical staff and 12 customer‑services colleagues. The lab provides analytical services to the Environment Agency and external customers, including the analysis of sediments, soils, biota and water from across England and the coastline, and a bespoke forensic waste service.
Experience and Skills Required
* Comfortable with IT, including Microsoft Office (training provided)
* Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented with ability to follow procedures
* Excellent communication skills
* Team player who enjoys helping others and building relationships
* Strong customer focus
* Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workloads
* Problem‑solving skills preferred
* Experience in a quality standard or UKAS accredited laboratory desirable
Full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
