Location: Guildford (hybrid role office based 2-3 days per week)
Practice Area: Construction & Engineering
Salary: £65-78.5K base (dependent on PQE) plus profit share, bonuses and extensive benefits package
Key Requirements
We are seeking an experienced Construction & Engineering Lawyer with strong credentials and a passion for high-quality legal work. This role would ideally suit candidates with experience across both contentious and non-contentious matters, but we are equally open to hearing from those who specialise in one area and wish to broaden their experience.
The successful candidate will have:
Contentious experience including adjudication, arbitration, and litigation in the Technology and Construction Court (TCC)
A proven ability to provide early-stage, commercial, and practical advice on distressed projects
Familiarity with payment disputes, professional negligence, delays, and defective works claims
Non-contentious expertise in advising on and leading transactions, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and ancillary agreements, and providing project lifecycle support
Experience acting for a broad client base including employers, main contractors, sub-contractors, and construction professionals
A strong academic record and experience typically gained from a major City, national or regional law firm
A genuine interest in the construction and engineering sectors
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach
Role & Responsibilities
This is an exciting opportunity to join a Legal 500 Band 1-ranked Construction Team, part of a wider Real Estate department. You will contribute to the team's ongoing success and gain exposure to high-value disputes and complex construction projects in diverse sectors including logistics, education, and manufacturing .
Your responsibilities will include:
Advising on a range of contentious and non-contentious construction matters
Representing clients in dispute resolution proceedings and offering early-stage risk mitigation advice
Leading on the drafting and negotiation of construction contracts, including JCT, NEC, and bespoke forms
Contributing to the ongoing development and success of the team through business development and client relationship initiatives
Supporting and participating in client-focused activities such as case law workshops and sector events
Benefiting from paralegal and knowledge lawyer support, as well as access to industry-leading online legal resources
