Job Overview
We’re looking for two experienced Project Engineers to join our Major Projects Maintenance team—one based in Derby and the other covering the East Midlands region (with flexibility to be based from Derby, Hinckley or Grantham). The role plays a critical part in delivering inspection, maintenance, fault repairs and construction activities on our 132 kV network across the East Midlands, ensuring reliability and safety for roughly 2.5 million customers. As a Project Engineer you will take ownership of maintaining our extra‑high voltage network across cables, substations and overhead lines.
Responsibilities
* Management and control of projects involving plant, overhead and underground systems
o Project Safety (ensure compliance with CDM 2015 regulations)
o Maintain and repair the 132/33/11 kV network across the East Midlands
o Demonstrate expertise in underground cables, overhead pylons, substations and protection schemes
o Network‑related risk management, liaising with company specialists
* Procurement and contractor management
* Senior authorised person duties
* Optimise network availability through outage management and contingency planning
* Maintenance and problem‑solving on existing plant and equipment
* Commissioning and maintenance of protection systems
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate practical knowledge of protection and control systems, commissioning equipment, plant specifications and extensive knowledge of the electricity network. They must hold a Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 qualification; if not yet obtained, they will be required to undertake an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a Foundation Degree in Electrical Power Engineering. Candidates must be Senior Authorised Persons with operational authorisation up to 132 kV and have experience working in a DNO, iDNO or ICP. They should be able to work safely in a high‑hazard environment, comply with CDM 2015, be self‑motivated, adaptable, autonomous and able to work under pressure. Mobile throughout the network area with a valid driving licence; standby duties may be required.
