This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in a month at 23:59 BST .

The Vacancy

FULL TIME - 37hrs

The Dame Carol Detoxification Service supports up to nine adults with life-threatening addictions from across the South of England. We work in partnership with Inclusion to provide a residential detox service for clients who are addicted to substances or alcohol.

Our aim is to reduce the need for emergency hospital admissions through the offer of planned, structured treatment.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside Inclusion staff to engage and support clients on their road to recovery. JOB PURPOSE

To work alongside health staff to support a caseload of clients to keep them safe and help them achieve their goals.

To provide people with homes and specialist support so they feel more valued and secure, and ready to take the next steps.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

* To work as part of the team alongside health staff supporting a caseload of clients to identify their needs through risk assessment and support planning
* To encourage clients to think about personal progression in the form of education, training, employment activity or volunteering.
* To lead on client activities to help them gain practical life skills health and wellbeing, and encourage their engagement with the running of the service
* To engage with local authorities, health providers and other agencies, creating and maintaining constructive working relationships to maximise the opportunities available to clients
* To escort clients externally, within the immediate locality, as required
* To support clients that may have feeding/diet difficulties and liaise with the chef as needed to resolve difficulties
* To support health staff with monitoring client's temperature, pulse, respiratory rate and blood pressure (full training is provided)
* To report all changes noted in a patient’s condition to the registered nurses
* To help with the cleaning and maintenance of equipment, reporting any damaged or faulty equipment to the nurse in charge (full training is provided)
* To support with emergency procedures as appropriate, e.g. fire, security, safety of clients(full training is provided)
* To assist with the safe keeping of property and valuables for clients
* To support nurses with admissions to detox(full training is provided)
* To support clients in trauma informed and psychologically informed ways
* To adhere to safeguarding responsibilities, following our safeguarding policy and procedure
* To help maintain health and safety, ensuring clients, visitors and buildings are safe in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, policy and procedures
* To provide basic first aid assistance until help arrives (full training is provided)
* To work confidently and efficiently when lone working
* To maintain accurate records on our client management system and ensure these are stored in line with GDPR
* To maintain confidentiality
* To represent the organisation in a professional manner
* To carry out any other reasonable duties required in the interest of the organisation

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

* This role will require an Enhanced with Barred List(s) disclosure and barring service check is a requirement for this role. This would be completed on appointment of the role.
* This role will require you to work with clients on a one-to-one basis
* This role will require you to work nights and/or weekends
* This role will require you to lone work

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
* Clear verbal and written English
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
* Confident and assertive manner
* Ability to self-motivate as you will work on your own
* Effective team working
* Ability to respond calmly to crisis
* Deal promptly with and effectively react to challenging situations
* Have an interest and genuine concern for mental health, housing and related issues

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

* Experience of managing a caseload of clients
* Understanding of the complex support needs of people experiencing substance misuse, mental health and physical support needs
* Knowledge of voluntary and statutory agencies, housing regulations and the benefits system
* Understanding of risk assessment and person-centred, outcomes-based delivery
* Understanding of safeguarding practices
