Prospero Teaching is seeking a skilled, patient and trauma-informed tutor to work 1:1 with a Year 7 student who requires a gentle, relationship-based re-engagement with education. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting young people with anxiety and SEMH needs.
Location: BH22
Hours: 15 hours per week
Pay: £25-£30 per hour
Student: Year 7 learner currently unable to access a classroom environment
Needs: SEMH, significant anxiety, difficulty attending school
About the Role
The tutor will deliver home-based sessions focused on building trust, emotional safety and confidence before gradually reintroducing academic work. The aim is to help the student re-engage with learning at a pace that feels manageable and, in time, support a gradual return to education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supportive, structured 1:1 sessions in the student's home
- Build a consistent, trusting relationship to reduce anxiety and increase engagement
- Use a child-led, low-pressure approach to rebuild confidence
- Introduce English and Maths gradually when the student shows readiness
- Apply trauma‑informed strategies to support emotional regulation
- Adapt teaching methods to suit the student's pace and learning profile
- Complete weekly progress reports to track academic and emotional development
Essential Requirements
- At least 6 months experience within Uk education setting
- Strong SEMH experience
- Understanding of anxiety, school avoidance and re-engagement strategies
- Calm, patient and nurturing approach
- Ability to create a safe, predictable learning environment
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Reliable, professional and committed to supporting long-term progress
