About the role
This role is integral to ensuring employees are equipped with the skills needed to operate a range of horticultural equipment, ride-on machines, tractors, and landscaping equipment safely and effectively. Comprehensive training is essential for preventing workplace accidents and injuries, especially when handling heavy and potentially hazardous equipment. Updating and coordinating the service induction programme creating a positive professional impression.

Job Description
Job purpose
To manage, co-ordinate and deliver training within the Parks service.
Responsibilities
13. To analyse appraisal and other data to inform development of an annual training programme for the Parks service prioritising statutory and income generation activities within a set budget envelope.
14. To prepare and present an annual programme of development to senior managers and then co-ordinate staff development within the service to meet the agreed plan whilst responding flexibly ‘in year’ to changing priorities.
15. To liaise, manage and implement training and development activities in association with internal and external bodies and providers including seeking quotations from providers meeting financial regulations at all times. To managing purchase orders and card purchases of training activities.
16. To directly undertake health and safety training meeting statutory requirements on specific plant, equipment and techniques deployed by the Parks service always taking direct responsibility for the supervision and safety of trainees whilst attending training events.
17. To develop, manage and implement an induction programme for new staff and to ensure relevant training records are accurate across the service.
18. To work with others across the service to ensure apprentice development programmes are successful and that apprentices have access to training and development activities to ensure they complete all required competencies to complete designed programmes.
19. To advise Management Team, through the appropriate mechanisms, of any ideas that might improve the efficiency or cost effectiveness of training and development within the service.
20. To liaise with all Officers, Members, bodies and individuals in order to achieve objectives set out in relevant strategies and plans in particular the Parks and Greenspace Strategy for Leeds.
21. To represent the service at City Council meetings, steering groups, working parties and public meetings as required on matters regarding training and development.
22. Be aware of and comply with Leeds City Council policies and procedures e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
23. Be aware of and support difference and ensure equality for all working in an anti-discriminatory manner, upholding and promoting the values, standards and equality & diversity policies of Leeds City Council.

Qualifications
Education and Training Level 3 - Assessing Competence in the workplace or equivalent. Applicants who can demonstrate that they are actively working towards this award may be considered.
A relevant qualification as a minimum of Level 3 in the Horticulture or significant experience in a related field.

39. Experience the management or supervision of staff.
40. Full driving licence.
