About the Role:
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the children’s residential home, ensuring high standards of care and compliance. You will lead, motivate and develop the staff team to deliver consistent, child-centred support. Your work will directly impact the safety, wellbeing and development of the children and young people in your care.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Registered Manager with the overall management of the home, ensuring it meets Ofsted regulations and internal quality standards.
Lead, supervise and motivate the staff team to deliver consistent, therapeutic and child-focused care.
Oversee care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans, ensuring they are individualised, up to date and effectively implemented.
Monitor safeguarding practices within the home, responding promptly to concerns and ensuring all procedures are followed.
Conduct regular staff supervisions, appraisals and coaching sessions to support performance and professional development.
Contribute to rota management, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and effective shift planning.
Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, external professionals and agencies to support integrated care.
Assist with audits, reports and action plans to drive continuous improvement and prepare for inspections.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience working in a children’s residential care setting.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising or mentoring staff.
In-depth knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Solid understanding of Ofsted regulations, quality standards and inspection frameworks.
Competence in care planning, risk assessment and recording/report writing.
Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
Confident communicator, able to build trust and rapport with children, staff and external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
Experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior Residential Support Worker role.
Full UK driving licence.
Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections and implementing resulting action plans.
Familiarity with therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches in residential childcare.
Qualifications:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – required.
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards) – required.
Evidence of ongoing professional development in safeguarding, behaviour management or related areas – preferred.
