About the Role:
As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the children’s residential home, ensuring high standards of care and compliance. You will lead, motivate and develop the staff team to deliver consistent, child-centred support. Your work will directly impact the safety, wellbeing and development of the children and young people in your care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Registered Manager with the overall management of the home, ensuring it meets Ofsted regulations and internal quality standards.
* Lead, supervise and motivate the staff team to deliver consistent, therapeutic and child-focused care.
* Oversee care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans, ensuring they are individualised, up to date and effectively implemented.
* Monitor safeguarding practices within the home, responding promptly to concerns and ensuring all procedures are followed.
* Conduct regular staff supervisions, appraisals and coaching sessions to support performance and professional development.
* Contribute to rota management, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and effective shift planning.
* Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, external professionals and agencies to support integrated care.
* Assist with audits, reports and action plans to drive continuous improvement and prepare for inspections.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience working in a children’s residential care setting.
* Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience supervising or mentoring staff.
* In-depth knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* Solid understanding of Ofsted regulations, quality standards and inspection frameworks.
* Competence in care planning, risk assessment and recording/report writing.
* Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
* Confident communicator, able to build trust and rapport with children, staff and external stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior Residential Support Worker role.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections and implementing resulting action plans.
* Familiarity with therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches in residential childcare.
Qualifications:
* Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – required.
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards) – required.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development in safeguarding, behaviour management or related areas – preferred.
