Lead Nurse for PCCU Medical Device Management and Procurement

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Lead Nurse for Medical Device Management with the PCCU. The post holder will be a proactive role model who forms part of the senior nursing team to lead on all aspects of medical devices management and associated training and competency assessment within PCCU. The post holder will have an over aching lead on all aspects of procurement, planning and implementation of electronic and disposable resources. They will play a key role in the development, implementation and management of medical devices to ensure consistent safe and optimal use. As a medical devices specialist the post-holder will additionally be a source of authoritative advice for clinical, technical and managerial staff on medical device usage, upkeep and safety issues within Critical Care; they may also support strategic planning, product evaluation, safety action and incident investigation activities relating to medical devices. They will be responsible for representing PCCU interests at divisional and trust level, providing an expert resource as required. The poster holder will also have line manager responsibility to a team, this will include the future vision of band 3 medical device support role development and ongoing leadership. The post holder will also support the admin team with the ordering of consumables.


Main duties of the job

Lead in the procurement of medical devices and disposable resources in conjunction with the trust procurement department and division procurement leads.

Lead for the planning, management and delivery of competency-based training for medical device users within Critical Care and ensuring compliance with Trust / local targets for equipment training.

Ensure that the organisation has an accurate record of a practitioner's learning.

To assist in the care and maintenance of physiological measurement, medical, scientific and laboratory equipment in all Critical Care Units, under the technical direction of the Medical Equipment services unit.

Be an expert resource within the PCCU leadership team with all issues regarding medical device risk management. Lead in identifying risk and under taking comprehensive risk assessment and action planning to mitigate risk where possible. The post holder will represent PCCU at Divisional, trust and network level, providing an expert resource and undertaken actions as required.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will represent PCCU at Divisional, trust and network level, providing an expert resource and undertaken actions as required.

Work closely with the senior management team to ensure the service delivery is maintained by facilitating a functioning fleet of medical devices with consideration to surge and business continuity.

Maintain clinical credibility by working clinical with the PCCU service, providing leadership and paediatric critical care nursing expertise within PCCU. Post holder will be expected to take down non-clinical role to support clinical pressures when required especially during sudden dn unexpected sickness of surge of patient's.

Maintain continual professional development as the role requires undertaking mandatory training and train the trainer proficiency.

Prioritise and plan workload to include working in clinical practice. Act as an expert resource for the multi- professional team, specialties, division and Trust.

Be a visible, accessible and assertive point of contact for staff, co-ordinating professional development for the wards/departments/division. Identify learning needs and implement appropriate initiatives to promote patient safety.

Coordinate and monitor the development of WINW, clinical guidelines, protocols and patient care policies and procedures utilising benchmarking, risk assessments and evidence-based best practice guidelines. Support ward/department leaders to implement and ensure best practice is embedded within care delivery. Actively encourage the use of clinical information to improve the quality of patient care.

Work in line with the PCCU Education lead nurse and Preceptorship Development Nurse


Person Specification


Training & Qualifications

* Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
* Degree Level Qualification in Nursing
* Paediatric Critical Care Course
* Children's Nurse
* Leadership training.
* Qualification in Nurse Education


Experience

* Evidence of management and leadership experience
* Practical experience of teaching
* Clinically credible who is experienced in Paediatric Critical Care Nursing
* Evidence of leading change
* Significant experience in use of a range of medical devices
* Facilitation of inter-professional learning.
* Experience of facilitating meetings
* Experience of competency-based training, planning and delivery.


Communication and Relationship Skills

* Can produce timely, accurate, written and electrical records and documents
* Excellent communication skills, ability to engage with all members of the MDT
* The ability to deal with interpersonal conflict
* Experience of supporting the team to achieve objectives of the organisation.
* Experience in an educational role within Critical Care.
* Familiarity with hospital software systems and presentation techniques to deliver effective education.


Analytical and Judgement Skills

* Ability to assess staff competence and confidence in clinical practice
* Ability to respond to, prioritise and analyse complex problems/situations and ensure effective interventions are put in place.
* Deal effectively with clinical issues within defined procedures/guidelines.
* Participation in audit and/or research projects.
* Experience in collection, synthesis, analysis and prioritisation of training needs data and allocation of study leave.
* Experience of incident investigation
