Lift Engineer

Are you an experienced Lift Engineer looking for a fresh challenge and the chance to make a real impact in Sheffield?

Sheffield City Council is seeking a skilled and qualified Lift Engineer to join our Housing Repairs & Maintenance Service. We’re looking for individuals with proven experience working on a wide range of lifts, including stairlifts and wheelchair lifts. Key Duties

9. Planned Maintenance: Carry out scheduled servicing and safety checks in line with manufacturer guidance and SFG20 standards.
10. Repairs & Fault‑Finding: Diagnose and fix breakdowns on various lift systems; source and fit parts.
11. Compliance: Support LOLER inspections, complete remedial actions, and maintain accurate service records.
12. Safety: Follow safe systems of work (LOTO, risk assessments, PPE); report hazards and near‑misses.
13. Customer Service: Communicate clearly with residents and colleagues; work respectfully in occupied homes.
14. Improvements: Deliver small upgrades such as door gear kits or auto-dialler installations.
15. Standby Rota: Participate in out‑of‑hours call‑outs.
16. Continuous Improvement & Mentoring: Contribute to service development and support apprentices/new starters.

Essential Requirements

17. NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Lift & Escalator Engineering.
18. Proven experience with passenger lifts, stairlifts and platform lifts.
19. Strong mechanical/electrical diagnostic skills and knowledge of relevant regulations (LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA).
20. Good communication and record‑keeping skills; full UK driving licence.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
