Senior/Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer
Rate: Up to £68 per hour for Senior position. Up to £78 per hour for Principal Position

About the Roles
We are seeking experienced Senior and Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineers to join the Mechanical Building Services Group within the Facilities Engineering Technical Authority. These positions play a critical role in supporting Ministry of Defence (MoD) projects at Devonport Royal Dockyard, ensuring technical compliance across complex engineering projects.
Both roles are full-time (35 hours per week), predominantly office-based with site visits required. Agile working is supported, with an expectation of two days per week on-site.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Technical Authority for Mechanical Building Services projects delivered by subcontractors.
* Prescribe and specify mechanical requirements in design documentation and scopes of work.
* Provide technical oversight and validation of designs to ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and business needs.
* Conduct design reviews, audits, and feasibility assessments.
* Respond to technical queries and lead stakeholder meetings.
* Perform site surveys, inspections, and monitor works.
* Mentor junior engineers and maintain accurate records.
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles for systems such as Steam & Condensate, HVAC, Industrial Gases, and Water Services.
* Knowledge of BREEAM, DREAM, Building Regulations, and energy reduction methods.
* Experience in design consultancy or contractor design environments.
* Familiarity with high-hazard industries (nuclear preferred).
* Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
Qualifications
* Degree in Building Services Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* Chartered Engineer status (CIBSE or IMechE) or working towards CEng.
Security Clearance
This role requires UK Security Check (SC) clearance due to the sensitive nature of the projects.
