Overview
Rice is critically important for global food security and is potentially the world’s most ‘essential’ crop because so much of it is directly consumed by humans. Whilst the UK is not a rice growing nation it hosts a thriving community of scientists and academics working on diverse aspects of rice plant biology, agrosystems and production. Despite this the UK does not have a formal organisational structure to support it. We are therefore pleased to announce a new 3-year networking initiative called Oryzanet, funded by the BBSRC. The aim of OryzaNet is to promote and develop the diverse rice research base in the UK and encourage international collaborations and partnerships for the future.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will help us to coordinate the various activities of OryzaNet. These include effective communication with network members; co-organisation of events including conferences and training; promotion of network activities and engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and administration of applications for funding provided by OryzaNet. You will join the Network Lead, based at Nottingham, and a group of academics from across the UK who are overseeing the network. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with UK and international stakeholders, including those in rice growing regions.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the activities of OryzaNet, including communication with network members.
* Co‑organise events such as conferences and training activities.
* Promote network activities and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
* Administer applications for funding provided by OryzaNet.
* Work with the Network Lead and academics across the UK to oversee the network and engage with international partners.
Qualifications and Skills
* Enthusiasm for agriculture, science and global food security challenges.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Relevant scientific background.
* Experience in project management and, preferably, managing networks in a relevant field.
* Experience in conference organisation and the ability to manage several work streams simultaneously.
Job Details
Type: Part-time (21.75 hours, 0.6 FTE), fixed-term until 31/12/2028. Flexible working is supported.
Location: Sutton Bonington
Salary: £29,740 to £36,446 per annum pro-rata depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
