Support Workers – Learning Disabilities


On-Site | 12-hour Shifts

Location: Dinnington, Newcastle

Pay: £12.80 per hour (more details below)

LIFE by Be Caring provides specialist, person-centred support for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism, helping them live full, meaningful and as independent lives as possible.

In our shared bungalows, you'll be part of a dedicated team supporting people who have a range of learning disabilities, physical and mental health needs.


About LIFE by Be Caring

LIFE by Be Caring is a values-led, person-centred service for people with Learning Disabilities and Autism. We use trauma-informed practice, Active Support and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to help people feel safe, understood and in control of their own lives.

About the Role

In this role, you'll be part of a small, consistent team working in shared bungalows, supporting people with Learning Disabilities and Autism in their daily lives. You'll work 12-hour shifts (typically 8am–8pm), with some shifts starting at 7am, and you'll typically support up to three people in each bungalow.

Your focus is to support people with the things that matter most to them – from everyday routines at home to getting out into the community – in a way that is respectful, enabling and person-centred.

Day to day, you'll be involved in:

* Personal care and daily living routines – helping people with washing, dressing and other aspects of personal care where needed.
* Medication – supporting with medication administration, following training and clear guidelines.
* Moving and handling – using appropriate equipment and techniques to support people safely and comfortably.
* Meals and routines at home – meal preparation and supporting people to make choices around food, plus light housekeeping so the bungalows stay clean, safe and homely.
* Community access and meaningful activities, such as:
o Going shopping, out for lunch or coffee
o Attending church groups, day trips and local activities
o Visiting sensory rooms
* Attending appointments – supporting people to get to and from health appointments and reviews, and helping them feel reassured throughout.

Some of the people you support may also show behaviours that can challenge. We'll talk this through in more detail at interview, and you'll be fully supported with specialist training, clear plans and ongoing guidance so you can work safely, confidently and in a way that upholds people's dignity and rights.


About You

You don't need to have done this exact role before, but you do need to:

* Care about helping people live full, meaningful lives
* Be reliable, calm and patient, especially when plans change Be willing to support with personal care, health needs and behaviours that can challenge
* Be a good communicator, able to listen, reassure and work well with others
* Be open to learning about Learning Disabilities, Autism and complex health needs

Experience in LD/Autism or complex care is an advantage, but we're just as interested in your values, resilience and commitment.


Training & Support

You'll receive comprehensive training before supporting people independently, including specific training from our in-house specialist around health needs in the bungalows.

Your paid induction and ongoing training will cover areas such as:

* LIFE and Be Caring values, and what “Above & Beyond” looks like in practice
* Learning Disabilities, Autism, sensory needs and communication
* Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed approaches
* Dignity, respect, safeguarding, equality & diversity
* Confidentiality & professional boundaries
* Medication, fluids and nutrition
* Moving and handling, basic life support, pressure care Infection prevention & control, health & safety

You'll also have access to funded qualifications, including Level 2/3 and other accredited courses, to support your development in complex care.
