An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cover Supervisor to join a welcoming secondary school close to Totton, Southampton. Starting in October 2025, this full-time role will run through to July 2026, with the strong possibility of extension or a permanent contract based on performance and school needs.
This role is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing a career in education and wanting to gain valuable, hands-on classroom experience. It is particularly suited to graduates or those aspiring to become teachers in the future.
The Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a key role in the smooth running of the school day by stepping in to deliver pre-prepared lessons in the absence of the class teacher. Your focus will be on maintaining a calm, purposeful classroom environment, ensuring students complete the work set, and upholding the school’s behaviour standards.
This is a varied role, with supervision across different year groups and subjects, including regular responsibilities within Physical Education (PE). While lesson planning and marking are not required, you will be expected to manage classrooms confidently and contribute positively to the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver set lesson content to classes across a range of subjects.
Manage classroom behaviour and promote a focused learning environment.
Support students with their work, offering clarification when needed.
Supervise PE lessons as part of your weekly timetable.
Adapt quickly to different classes and year groups.
Be a positive role model, reinforcing the school’s values and expectations.

Person Specification
A degree (desirable, but not essential).
