Offer description

Overview

We have a new Community Mental Health Occupational Therapist vacancy. We are looking for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the team at South West Kent Mental Health Together and Mental Health Together Plus teams. The role involves delivering OT assessments and interventions within a national restructuring of community mental health services that emphasises interventions. We aim to maintain and develop current interventions in the Mental Health Together and Together + services.

This post would suit an experienced Band 6 seeking to develop new skills. Training and support would be offered for unfamiliar areas. The role includes group work to support complex service users in developing daily living skills and strategies to manage mental health recovery, alongside core team functions such as trusted assessments, urgent assessment, risk management, and management of clinical pathways with a large MDT.

Responsibilities

* Support the delivery of high quality mental health services to service users with a variety of mental health difficulties.
* Provide high quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions (group and individual) to people who access services and their carers/supporters/family, in line with the OT pathways.
* Communicate effectively with service users, carers, the multidisciplinary team, and, when appropriate, outside agencies.
* Contribute to the generic functioning of the team.
* Provide supervision and mentoring to more junior Occupational Therapists, OT Apprentices and Support Workers.
* Provide occupational therapy student placements.
* Contribute to service development and audit.
* Deliver one-to-one OT interventions and engage in focussed interventions to individuals as opportunities arise.
* Involve in the delivery of Trusted assessments and support the wider team with management and delivery of care through different pathways, including complex case management, Complex Emotional Difficulties, Urgent and Recovery Pathways.
* Be involved in group-based interventions to develop skills for managing emotions, life skills, ADLs and recovery planning, and joint working with support workers to facilitate transitions into other local services.
* Support the MDT in management of clinical pathways and be active in service development.

Qualifications and Requirements

* Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car/vehicle for business use (unless restricted by the Equality Act 2010).
* Registered Occupational Therapist with HCPC (implied by Band 6 level in NHS Trust postings).
* Experience in community mental health settings and multidisciplinary teamwork.
