Clinical Specialist Nurse - Older People Mental Health
The closing date is 28 May 2025
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Nurse to shape, develop, and have an area of specialism in older people's mental health within the mental health team. The role involves working across HMP Millsike, a new Category C men's prison, and HMP Full Sutton, a Category A men's prison, located in Full Sutton near York.
Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust was recently awarded the Mental Health Service contract to begin delivering services at HMP Millsike in April 2025.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new mental health team at a brand new prison site.
Your clinical expertise and extensive knowledge will support the delivery of mental health services, develop pathways, ensure quality care, and uphold clinical governance standards. The role includes a specialist focus on developing and delivering mental health care pathways for older people.
You should have extensive experience working within a prison or wider forensic services, a positive and compassionate attitude towards service users in the prison environment, and awareness of clinical challenges faced by individuals in secure settings. The role requires high standards of professional practice and excellent communication and relationship skills.
Main duties of the job
We seek an experienced nurse who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, and provide patient care. You will collaborate with registered mental health and learning disability nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, primary care mental health practitioners, and wider partner agencies including primary care, social care, and prison staff.
We offer robust supervision, comprehensive induction, and a workforce development plan with numerous training opportunities to enhance your skills and evidence-based practices.
You will need to be innovative, flexible, and capable of engaging clients with complex needs. We value commitment to equal opportunities and non-discriminatory practices, reflecting the trust's core values of Responsibility, Respect, and Compassion.
Alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Consultant, you will serve as the professional lead for nurses within the team, guiding professional development and ensuring high standards of nursing practice.
We encourage candidates to contact us for an informal discussion.
